In 2022, nuclear fusion ignition was realized in the US for the first time in history, but there are still many challenges to be overcome for practical application. By utilizing high-repetition power laser technology, which is currently one of Japan's strengths, and by advancing unique approaches and strategies, Japan can lead the world in the use of fusion energy. Furthermore, if new developments in laser fusion research that bring together a variety of cutting-edge technologies can be advanced, and if Japan's competitive fundamental technologies and innovative technologies can be integrated, the spill-over effect will be enormous.
