The method of carbonization and graphitization of polymers by laser irradiation enables the direct writing of conductive structures in arbitrary shapes. In this talk, an overview of the fundamentals and recent research trends in carbonization and graphitization induced by laser irradiation will be reviewed. Additionally, our fundamental research as well as applications such as the direct writing of graphene quantum dots structures, fabrication of supercapacitors and triboelectric nanogenerators will be introduced.
