The properties of NV centers in a diamond depend on their concentration and orientation. Here we report direct writing of preferentially oriented NV centers by ultrashort laser pulses. We found that the orientation of NV centers is biased in the [111] direction parallel to the laser propagation direction, depending on the polarization direction, increasing up to 55% compared to 25% in the random orientation.
