It is discovered in the design of liquid crystal lenses that by connecting linearly increasing electrode lines, a parabolic voltage distribution can be formed, ultimately achieving a parabolic phase distribution. Liquid crystal lenses of very small aberrations then become possible. This work explores the application of this technique in the design of refractive Fresnel liquid crystal lenses.
