In this presentation, we report on a photoresponsive actuator utilizing ferrocene and poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA). The ferrocene-doped PBMA film expands under 445nm laser irradiation and contracts when the laser is turned off. Preparation of a dual-layer film by using this film as the active layer, combined with a passive layer of adhesive tape, enables control of bending motion through laser on/off. We also fabricated a table-shaped lifting machine using this film. Furthermore, the gold-coated film was applied to a photoresponsive switch in an electric circuit. The ferrocene-containing films also exhibited recovery from mechanical damage induced by the photoirradiation. Additionally, we present the photosalient effect of azobenzene- and crown ether complexes in polymorphic crystals.
