We can frequently observe bistable liquid crystal (LC) molecular orientation properties in hybrid-aligned nematic LC cells with microscale alignment patterns. So far, we have found that the switching between stable and quasi-stable states can be achieved by inducing an isotropic-nematic phase transition (heating and cooling the cell), together with a voltage application-removal process. In this work, it is revealed that bistable switching can electrically be achieved without the thermal process by optimizing the microscale alignment pattern and voltage application-removal process.
