In this study, we fabricated and evaluated implantable multi-ion image sensor that can measure Mg2+ and Ca2+ concentrations. Since the Mg2+-sensitive membrane has high sensitivity to Ca2+ as well as Mg2+, we thought that it would be possible to discriminate between the two by painting the Ca2+-sensitive membrane, which is highly selective to coexisting ions. The evaluation results showed that the system actually succeeded in discriminating between Mg2+ and Ca2+ concentration changes, providing a prospect for the quantification of Mg2+ concentration changes and the simultaneous measurement of multiple ion species.
