We have developed an "extended free energy model" that combines Landau theory and data science to optimize the design of functions. This model analyzes the free energy behind the function on the information space, and can connect the relationship between function and structure in a super-hierarchy. Specifically, causal analysis of functional mechanisms, extraction of knowledge unnoticed by humans, and optimization of material functions are expected.
