Photomultiplier tubes (PMT) make use of this external photoelectric effect and are superior in response speed and sensitivity (low-light-level detection). Using microchannel plates (MCP) as an electron multiplier, The PMT have evolved into more versatile devices capable of wide-bandwidth measurements down to the picosecond level as well as low-light-level detection at the photon counting level.
The positive ion which occurred in a vacuum tube as one of the causes of the photomultiplier tube short life is known to give damage to a PC.The development MCP-PMT without an Al film on MCP and a mesh electrode for gate operation improved the ion-resistant processing in the PMT of short life. they were found to have the long life,and we confirmed that a outgassing was reduced by performing ion-resistant processing.
