An external cavity diode laser (ECDL) with no mechanical adjustable parts was made. The frequency was scanned by varying the injection current to the laser diode (LD). When the output facet of the LD was uncoated, the continuous tuning range (CTR) was one-fifth of the free spectral range (FSR). By antireflection coating on the output facet, expanding the CTR to the FSR was expected, but the CTR reached 4.5 times larger than the FSR.
