metasurface

Dielectric metasurfaces are commonly designed by determining the shape of each meta-atom to achieve the desired wavefront transformation using the transmission properties of meta-atoms with different geometries, which are obtained in advance under periodic boundary conditions. However, the presence of shape variations leads to the violation of periodic boundary conditions, potentially impacting the overall performance. In this paper, we quantitatively evaluate the shape differences between adjacent meta-atoms and demonstrates their correlation with the performance of metasurface-based polarization beam splitters of different designs.
