Electrochemical proton insertions and extractions are powerful methods to manipulate physical properties and explore new phases of materials. Electric-field-effect transistor structures with gate layers of proton-containing electrolytes (Nafion) have been shown to be utilized to electrochemically insert and extract protons into oxide films and modulate oxides’ properties. Here, we show that electrochemical protonation in the brownmillerite SrCoO2.5 (SCO) films in transistor structures with Nafion gate layers strongly depends on the duration of proton injection.
