We study the material properties of diamnd and their effects on the static magnetic field sensitivity of quantum sensor based on a large ensemble of NV centers. The experimental methods to measure the spin dephasing time T2* and NV concentration are given with experimental results, as well as achieved values of sensitivity with improved diamond samples. We will discuss the relationship between such material parameters and the magnetic sensitivity, as well as our direction to achieve higher sensitivity.
