In a previous study, we observed that the positron lifetime changes depending on the radical concentration in an aqueous solution using a pair of PET detectors, and demonstrated the possibility of quantifying radicals in vivo. In this study, we investigated the relationship between quantifiable radical concentrations and statistics using a brain-dedicated PET system VRAIN. The results suggested that the difference in radical concentrations in aqueous solutions on the order of several mM can be quantified if the number of the obtained counts is larger than the eighth power of 10.
