Astatine is an alpha-particle emitter that is finding application in the medical field for potential cancer therapy. Currently, studies on astatine treatment requires the use of a carrier material, commonly gold, to bring them into the vicinity of the target cancer area. However, there are other biocompatible metals that could be used, and therefore we study the adsorption of astatine on these metals to find out. Our simulation results of astatine adsorption of different biocompatible metals show that there are other metals that provide stronger adsorption energy than gold. This is likely due to the d-orbitals in these metals not being fully occupied, making them more ready to interact with other particles than gold.
