The flow behavior of liquids is commonly characterized by viscosity. However, its microscopic origin remains poorly understood. Previous studies on liquid metals have shown that, at high temperatures, an elementary process defined by the creation and annihilation of atomic bonds governs the stress relaxation time. In this study, we extend this concept to more complex molecular liquids, including silica, water, silicon, and ionic liquids, and elucidate the similarities and differences between simple and molecular liquids.
