In recent years, bio-jet fuel has attracted attention as a renewable aviation fuel. It is produced via catalytic hydrocracking of vegetable oils, which requires costly hydrogenation catalysts and high-temperature, high-pressure conditions. In this study, aiming for catalyst-free hydrocarbon production, we investigated the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma treatment of short-chain fatty acids as model compounds. As a result, hydrocarbon formation through deoxygenation reactions was confirmed.
