High driving voltage is a challenge for blue organic light-emitting diode (OLED), creating a need for lower operating voltages and narrower emission spectra. In this study, we used DICz, a molecule with high rigidity, as a dopant in a blue OLED that utilizes upconversion from a charge-transfer state. As a result, we observed a narrow blue emission with a peak wavelength of 450 nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 13 nm at an ultra-low voltage of 1.5 V. This achievement contributes to the development of high-quality displays with low power consumption.
