The methylation rate of the MGMT promoter region of glioblastoma DNA significantly influences prognosis prediction and treatment decisions. Aiming for minimally invasive real-time measurement from peripheral blood, infrared absorption spectra measurements were performed on patient plasma. This measurement does not require specific reagents or sample pretreatment. We describe the ability to distinguish methylation status based on multivariate analysis of the spectra, as well as changes in glioblastoma lipid metabolism and observed blood lipid characteristics associated with methylation rates.
