Conventional fast neutron measurement methods using High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) converters have been widely known. However, in BNCT irradiation fields with a broad neutron energy spectrum, and gamma-rays generated from (n, γ) reactions between thermal neutrons and hydrogen in the converter become significant noise, making neutron discrimination difficult. In this study, we propose a new configuration in which BeO ceramic plates are placed on both sides of an HDPE converter. PHITS simulations suggest that subtracting the signals from the front and rear enables effective gamma-ray removal and selective detection of fast neutrons under BNCT irradiation conditions.
