We investigated the feasibility of realizing a persistent spin helix (PSH) state in a two-dimensional electron gas (2DEG) formed at a GaAs/AlGaAs single heterointerface. To evaluate the uniaxiality of the effective magnetic field, we measured the spatial dependence of the spin precession frequency along both the x and y directions using time- and space-resolved Kerr rotation. Only very small gradients were observed in both directions. This may be attributed to a weak spin–orbit effective magnetic field or to the dominance of signals originating from outside the 2DEG.
