Whispering gallery mode optical resonator
WGM optical resonators confine light via total internal reflection; thus, such materials show high quality (Q) factors, resulting highly sensitive sensors and low-threshold lasing. Previously, we fabricated luminescent molecule-coated silica gel microspheres as WGM resonators, but such spheres are polydispersity and mechanical tunability. These features hinder the formation of homogeneous large-area arrays and precise control over resonator deformation. Here, we demonstrate a fabrication of a nondispersive PMMA microsphere coated with luminescent molecules. This material enables to form large-scale, uniform arrays of WGM resonators on substrates, offering improved structural consistency and potential for tunable optical functionality.
