In nanogaps with distances of less than a few nanometers, an abnormal increase in heat transport is observed that cannot be explained by conventional radiation theory. It is thought that electrons and phonons propagate across the gaps, but the transport mechanism has not yet been elucidated. In this study, we measured the thermal conductance of gold nanogaps modified with organic molecules on their surfaces. The increase in thermal conductance was found to depend significantly on the vibrational modes of the adsorbed molecules, revealing that phonons near the electrode surface contribute to heat transport.
