Ferrimagnetic Mn4N thin film with an anti-perovskite structure exhibits a small magnetization (Ms = 80 kA m−1) and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (Ku = 0.1 MJ m−3), characteristics that enable high-speed domain wall motion driven by spin transfer torque. Therefore, we have focused on Mn4N for high-speed magnetization control using spin torques. In this study, Mn4N films on a heavy metal underlayer are prepared. We selected Pt as an underlayer because it is a proven source of spin injection and has a low lattice mismatch of −0.8% with Mn4N. The bilayer structure enables us to control the magnetization of Mn4N with spin-orbit torques in spin oscillating or switching devices. However in a previous study, Mn4N/Pt/MgO(001) showed large surface roughness that was inherited from the Pt underlayer. Thus, we used Pt/Fe underlayer to obtain flat surface in this work. In addition, we evaluated the properties depending on the substrate temperature during Mn4N deposition.
