To improve the quality of non-cubic laser ceramics, we prepared Nd-doped fluorapatite (Nd:FAP) ceramics with both fine grains and preferred orientation. Calcination and milling conditions were optimized to obtain fine particles suitable for magnetic alignment. Orientation, microstructure, chemical composition, transmittance, and fluorescence properties were evaluated.
