Phase-change materials typically utilize the transition between crystalline and amorphous phases for information storage. In recent years, however, materials that exploit property changes between crystalline–crystalline phases have attracted growing attention. SnSe exhibits a strain–unstrained transition accompanied by property changes at high temperatures, and it is of particular interest whether this phase transition can be induced by photoexcitation. In this study, we conducted time-resolved optical spectroscopy using pump light with a high absorption coefficient and report on the ultrafast optical response of SnSe under conditions of high-density excitation.
