A detailed study carried out on the effect of correlated and uncorrelated randomness in the light localization in one dimensional passive superlattice structures for TE and TM polarized light. Randomness in the periodic systems causes degradation of photonic bandgap but it can be used to achieve better light localization. The light localization depends on mode of polarization, strength of randomness as well as type of randomness. The systems with correlated randomness are more vulnerable against randomness compared to the uncorrelated systems. Also, the TE polarized light has better localization at all frequencies.
