Molecular assemblies are constructed through intermolecular interactions between component molecules. In this presentation, I will introduce soft materials obtained via the molecular assembly of hybrid molecules composed of chemically reactive artificial molecular modules and biomolecules such as peptides, nucleic acids, and sugars. In particular, I will focus on stimulus-responsive, hydrogel-based soft materials formed by nanofiber networks, which can be constructed through molecular assembly in aqueous environments. I will also discuss research aimed at the development of artificial cells through the complexation of multiple molecular assemblies.
