Electronic ferroelectrics, which can be categorized as a new type of ferroelectricity, are expected to show ultrafast responses on subpicosecond timescales for their peculiar polarization induced by the electrons which are strongly correlated via Coulomb repulsion, etc. Recently, the electronic polarization in a layered ferrite has been found to show a gigantic response upon applying a terahertz field. The in-phase change with respect to the terahertz frequency indicates unprecedented sensitivity of the electronic polarization against external fields. The inhomogeneous spatiotemporal dynamics indicate that electronic-ferroelectric domains play an important role.
