When a near-infrared (NIR) laser focused to the diffraction limit irradiates an aqueous colloidal solution, a localized non-equilibrium temperature field is generated, and thermophoretic forces are induced in addition to radiation pressure. In this study, we focus on thermophoretic-optical tweezers, which trap particles by combining the thermophoretic and optical forces. Here, we evaluated their trapping characteristics using Brownian dynamics simulations (BDS), which we developed to evaluate trapping behavior of nanoparticles. In this presentation, I will discuss the effectiveness of utilizing thermophoretic forces in optical tweezers based on the simulation results.
