We measured voltage-dependent hysteresis loops of the pyroelectric and electrocaloric effects in ferroelectric PZT thin films and observed pronounced asymmetric shifts along both the voltage and polarization axes. By examining the loop evolution under bipolar triangular-wave poling pulses and during time-dependent aging, we demonstrated that these asymmetries arise from domains whose reversal is inhibited by defect-induced pinning. Our results clarify the microscopic origin of directional enhancements in pyroelectric and electrocaloric responses and suggest routes for engineering domain pinning to optimize device performance.
