Achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 requires not only emission reduction but also carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies as essential components. The authors have initiated the development of an electrochemical marine CO2capture technology (mCDR) that employs pH control via bipolar membrane electrodialysis as the core technology to efficiently separate and capture CO2 from seawater. This presentation introduces the operating principles, implementation systems, and technical challenges of the mCDR technology.
