For organisms living on the earth including human beings, the space is a highly unusual, unexperienced environment. The unusualness of the space environment includes microgravity, alteration in daily periodicity and high radiation. In general, various biological effects of radiation are thought to be caused by DNA damage. In this presentation, I would like to begin with asking a fundamental question why DNA is a special target of DNA, i.e., what features of DNA make it a special target of radiation and discuss how and how much we can adapt to space environment with high radiation.
