Reducing AC losses is an important issue for multilayer superconducting cables using REBCO coated conductors. In this study, AC loss characteristics of a longitudinal magnetic field cable were analyzed using the finite element method with COMSOL Multiphysics. Two models were compared: one assuming that the local magnetic field acts entirely as a perpendicular field, and the other considering the angular dependence of the critical current density according to the local magnetic field direction. The results showed that considering the angular dependence suppresses the reduction of the effective critical current density due to the longitudinal magnetic field effect, resulting in lower Joule losses. These findings indicate that the longitudinal magnetic field effect is effective in reducing AC losses in REBCO superconducting cables.
