To improve the recyclability of photovoltaic modules, the PID characteristics of encapsulant-free crystalline Si photovoltaic modules were evaluated. A large-area module was fabricated by connecting five 156 mm square cells in series, and a bias voltage of −1000 V was applied to the cells at 20 °C. EQE and EL measurements were performed on each cell before and after the test. As a result, no decrease in EQE in the short-wavelength region or reduction in emission intensity was observed. These results suggest that the encapsulant-free structure using a PC plate as the cover material is effective in suppressing PID even after scaling up the module area.
