Annihilation photon pairs from positron–electron annihilation exhibit a polarization correlation originating from quantum entanglement, whose strength is characterized by the modulation factor μ of the azimuthal correlation. Applying this correlation to the future selection of true coincidences first requires assessing to what extent the modulation can actually be observed under realistic detector conditions. In this study, we used Geant4 simulations to estimate the μ expected for our in-house Ce:GAGG/SiPM three-ring PET system and compared it with measured data. In this presentation, we report these results and discuss the observability of the polarization modulation.
