g-C3N4 is a hopeful photocatalyst due to its visible light-responsivity and band structure suitable for water splitting or carbon dioxide reduction. We have developed a facile method for evaluating the energy level of surface band edges of materials in aqueous solution using photoemission yield spectroscopy in air (PYSA). In this study, we evaluated the energy level of surface band edges for g-C3N4 particles dispersed in aqueous solution, which is similar system of photocatalytic experiment, using the PYSA. In addition, photocatalytic activity for water splitting of g-C3N4 was measured, and its result was related with the result from PYSA.
