To improve the durability of fuel cell catalyst supports, we fabricated diamond powder coated with a nitrogen-doped conductive nanodiamond layer. This coating decreased the resistivity of the powder, allowing the oxygen reduction reaction to proceed at a more positive potential and thus improving the catalytic activity. Furthermore, the catalyst retained 84% of its initial electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) after durability testing, demonstrating approximately 37% higher durability than conventional Pt-supported carbon black catalysts.
