In surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) using nanogap nanoparticles, molecular detection relies on the phenomenon where scattered light is significantly enhanced when target molecules enter the enhanced electric field formed within the interparticle gaps. In contrast to such previous studies, in this study we fabricated Au nanoparticles with varying gap sizes on glass substrates and attempted to evaluate molecular sizes by utilizing the phenomenon that the amplification of scattered light is reduced in gaps smaller than the target molecule. We will present the results of this study.
