For highly sensitive magnetic-field sensing using nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers in diamond, it is important to generate highly oriented NV centers with aligned crystallographic orientations. In this study, we systematically evaluated the measurement accuracy and reliability of a mapping-based characterization method for visualizing the spatial distribution of the orientation ratio of highly oriented NV centers generated by CVD growth on a (001) diamond substrate with {111}-faceted inverted-pyramid-shaped holes. Furthermore, we investigated how the fabrication method, growth conditions, surface state, and hole geometry affect the properties of the NV centers.
