To elucidate the formation process of photoexcited electronic states in CuPc thin films on HOPG substrates, we investigated the excitation-energy dependence of time-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (TRPES) spectra. In addition to bleaching of HOMO, four photoexcited electronic states were observed. Although the energy difference between the HOMO and L0 was 2.1 eV, the intensity of the L0 peak reached a maximum at an excitation energy of 1.8 eV. This energy coincides with the absorption energy corresponding to the S0→S1 transition, suggesting that the L0 state is a photoexcited electronic state associated with the S1 transition.
