We have previously demonstrated in our laboratory that the grain size of thin films of the liquid-crystalline organic semiconductor perylene tetracarboxylic diimide derivative (PTCDI-C8) can be controlled up to several hundred micrometers by regulating the crystallization process from the liquid-crystalline phase formed on the substrate during vapor deposition. In this presentation, we report our attempt to fabricate thin films with even larger grain sizes by controlling the nucleation sites within the liquid-crystalline film using a nucleation-inducing layer and promoting unidirectional crystal growth originating from these nuclei. The results of this study will be presented.
