In general, organic thin-film devices that utilize excitons for optical functions face the problem of their optical performance being impaired by quenching due to propagating surface plasmons (SPPs) that arise at the surface of bulk metals. Most organic thin-film devices require a metal thin film as an electrode material. Therefore, we attempted to enhance optical performance by generating standing waves of SPPs using a whispering gallery mode (WGM) resonator and causing them to resonate with excitons.
