In this study, high performance was achieved by applying a surface treatment to stainless steel separators. Stainless steel separators must possess two key properties: high corrosion resistance and low contact resistance. Traditionally, these properties were achieved by coating stainless steel separators with gold. However, gold is expensive. Therefore, we undertook the development of a coating material capable of achieving both properties at a lower cost. We applied a surface treatment to control the oxide film on the surface of the stainless steel separator and evaluated its effectiveness in improving corrosion resistance and contact resistance.
