Coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS) is a highly sensitive molecular analysis technique; however, non-resonant background can hinder molecular detection. In this study, pre-pulses contained in a time-asymmetric probe pulse, which often pose a problem in time-delayed CARS, were suppressed using a resonant saturable absorber mirror (RSAM). The pre-pulse suppression was observed by cross-correlation measurements, demonstrating that this approach is effective for efficient suppression of the non-resonant background and for extending CARS to systems with weaker signals.
