Vertically aligned single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) films were synthesized using Co and Ir catalysts by the cold-wall chemica vapor dposition(CW-CVD) method. Cross-sectional SEM and YAG-BSE observations were performed to investigate the catalyst-substrate interface. In the Ir-catalyzed sample, particle-like contrast attributed to high atomic number elements was observed near the interface, whereas no distinct contrast was detected in the Co-catalyzed sample. The differences in interfacial structure and possible magnetic origins arising from the catalyst species are discussed, with particular emphasis on the possibility of controlling interface magnetism through catalyst selection in SWCNT-based nanostructures.
