Dual-comb spectroscopy, based on the interference between two optical frequency combs with slightly different repetition frequencies, enables rapid and precise acquisition of frequency and phase information and is therefore well suited for high-precision distance measurements. However, the measurement precision is limited by temporal phase fluctuations of the optical frequency comb. In this study, these fluctuations were suppressed by referencing the group delay difference between two orthogonal polarization modes in a long polarization-maintaining fiber. As a result, a ranging precision of 4 nm was achieved for a fixed distance with an averaging time of 1 ms.
