The development of next-generation HDD technologies beyond heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) is urgently required. Ferroelectric materials are expected to enable ultra-high-density recording surpassing magnetic recording, as their polarization and domain wall widths can be confined to the nanoscale, down to only a few lattice constants. In this study, with the development of ferroelectric-media-based HDDs in mind, we have initiated an investigation into the feasibility of ultra-high-density data writing in ferroelectric thin films. Specifically, we examined the effects of electric field application time and electric field waveform on the polarization size.
