A hot-injection synthesis utilizing an alkyl iodide additive (1-IDD) was investigated to synthesize high-aspect-ratio SnTe nanorods, aiming to enhance the contribution of topological surface states for thermoelectric applications. Varying the 1-IDD amount from 0.32 to 0.96 mmol resulted in a morphological transition of the products from nanosheets/nanoplates to long nanorods, and into Te-rich aggregates with excessive addition. The details of these morphological changes and the corresponding formation mechanisms will be discussed the conference.
