WO3 nanoparticles were investigated as visible-light-responsive photocatalysts for addressing environmental pollution associated with population growth. Although WO3 has a smaller band gap than TiO2, its photocatalytic activity under indoor LED illumination is still limited. In this study, carbon and nitrogen co-doping using urea was employed to extend the optical absorption edge of WO3. The urea content and annealing temperature were systematically varied, and co-doping was achieved using a simple sealed annealing method. The photocatalytic activity of the resulting WO3 nanoparticles under white LED illumination was then evaluated.
